(((HEADPHONES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED))) From the Disney Archives: In 1949 Disney was hard at work on another princess film which could make or break the studio, Cinderella. Ilene Woods, who provided the singing and speaking voice of Cinderella, and Eleanor Audley, famous as the step mother and later nine years later, Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty take on the roles of Snow White and the Wicked Queen in this RCA Victor Little Nipper storybook album, narrated by Dennis Day. In those days before the existence of Disneyland Records, it was common for other labels to license the songs, score, and narration of a Disney film. Some, like this one were brilliant, utilizing talent from the Disney canon and top notch bandleaders, Paul Smith in this case. This is a version of Snow White like you’ve never heard it before… but no less enjoyable! From Vault Disney: Familiar clips have been excerpted and featured in several DVDs and television specials, but in reality were part of a ½ hour interview conducted by Fletcher Markle who directed The Incredible Journey for Walt. It aired on the CBC in 1963 and has seldom been seen nor heard in its entirety since. Until now. From the Studio Morgue: This episode we unearth the now legendary soup eating sequence from Snow White. It was supervised by one of Disney’s legendary nine old men, Ward Kimball. Each show we present a high definition ride-through from Disneyland, DCA, or Walt Disney World. This week, with the recent closure of one of the Magic Kingdom’s original attractions, it’s time to do a compare and contrast of the two versions of Snow White’s Scary Adventures. We’ll take in first the Disneyland version, then fly off to the East Coast for one of the last performances of the same attraction, recorded in April of last year. We'll close this week’s show with a grab bag of cover tunes from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Who you’re hearing will be in the show notes on Mouselounge.com. (((HEADPHONES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED))) This episode, the Mouse Lounge gets electrified! I recently announced that I will be blogging for The Disney Driven Life. The focus of my articles will be on Disney music, from the films, parks, Walt Disney Records, and even those great 78s that preceded the formation of Disneyland records in 1955. Of course I began planning my articles right away, and in doing so remembered I had produced a gem of a mini documentary nearly five years ago when I was living in Colorado. I looked up the show it came from and dragged it out of digital mothballs. Back then I believe the Mouse Lounge had two listeners, and I was one of them. So, it pleases me greatly, now that the show has grown and matured to at least a half dozen DFs with positively nothing else better to do, to bring you, The Musical History of the Main Street Electrical Parade. You’ll learn the evolution of electronic music and along the way meet such luminaries as Bob Moog, Don Dorsey, Rick Wakeman, and Jean-Jacque Perrey (composer of the familiar Baroque Hoedown) and hear the brilliant music of Raymond Scott, Wendy Carlos, Yes, The Beau Hunks, Carl Stalling. I’ll close the show with what is arguably the best iteration, and certainly most difficult to find of the parade, Tokyo Disneyland’s, “Dreamlights.” This track does not contain character voices, to better be able to take in the marvelous music! (((HEADPHONES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED))) This week, the Mouse Lounge celebrates Labor Day with a special labor of love, a glide-thru Disneyland. Now allow me to take just a moment to explain the Glide-thru. Most of us have heard many different live recordings of attractions and shows from the parks. Often, these include dialogue with the host and his guests. The Glide-thru allows you to take in the soundscape with only the sounds of the park, as you would hear it if you were somehow floating through the park by yourself, allowing you to take in details of the ambience. So far that may sound somewhat familiar, but the Glide-thru is crafted such so you will also enjoy a show, attraction, or live music performance during the journey, always something special. You never know where you’ll start, or where you’ll end up, but the Glide-thru will always be entertaining as you float through the parks on the breeze of the stereoscape. What you are about to hear was recorded Saturday, September 3rd, Labor Day weekend 2011. Imagine it’s the last hurrah of summer in the mid afternoon. The park is full of happy guests on a beautiful summer day. There’s an electric energy in the air you can actually hear.

(((HEADPHONES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED))) In this episode, the Mouse Lounge takes in a languorous, lazy summer day…at 55 miles per hour of course.
Each week, in From the Vault we sample a clip from a classic Disney film, short, television or radio program, or Disneyland Record. In 1963 Walt Disney Productions released the feature film Summer Magic, starring Hayley Mills, Burl Ives, and Dorothy McGuire in a story about a Boston widow and her children taking up residence in a small town in Maine. The film was based on the book "Mother Carey's Chickens" by Kate Douglas Wiggin. The film was Mills' fourth of six films for Disney, and the young actress received a Golden Globe nomination for her work. The soundtrack from the picture yielded some very good songs, including the Richard Sherman composition, the Ugly Bug Ball; which went on to be a popular song that year. Two other cuts on the record however will be of interest to Disney Park fans. Flitterin’ and Beautiful Beulah can often be heard in instrumental form as you stroll down Main Street USA. Now have a listen to these familiar melodies, complete with their original lyrics. From the Walt Disney Archives: On the evening of June 25th, D23 members gathered at the Walt Disney Theater on the Disney Studios lot in Burbank to witness a once in a lifetime event. Dave Smith, Chief Archivist for the Walt Disney Company celebrated his and it’s 40th anniversary! While tinged with just the slightest bit of sadness with the fresh reveal Dave will be retiring in October; the evening was a celebration in the truest sense. Disney luminaries such as CEO Bob Iger, composer Richard Sherman, and Imagineers Tony Baxter and Bob Gurr, were in attendance. Leonard Maltin interviewed Dave during the occasion. We present the entirety of that interview here. Each week we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West. This week, summer isn’t complete without the rush of a roller coaster and fireworks. In DCA’s Paradise Pier, take a ride on California Screamin’! Then, let’s cross the esplanade and take in Magical!, Disney’s Nightastic fireworks spectacular. This is a Mouse Lounge Re-mix, so should be extra fun with the sounds of a very enthusiastic summer crowd in the background. We'll close this week’s show with audio from an attraction you can only see online. You’ll hear more about it coming up. Have a listen to the World of Color Roadshow.
