"Shermania!"
(((HEADPHONES RECOMMENDED)))
Produced as a tribute to Disney Legends, the Sherman Brothers, "Shermania!" the film began life first as a song.  Robert and Richard Sherman's Father, Tin Pan Alley tune-smith, Al Sherman, told his boys to follow the three S’s when writing songs: make them singable, simple, and sincere.
With that ideal as inspiration, composer Jerry Ranger and author/lyricist Cynthia Ferrell co-wrote the song, "Singable, Simple, and Sincere".  The song is performed by Tess Ferrell, now lead singer in "Big Band Beat," a broadway-style show on the American Waterfront at Tokyo DisneySea.
The film, now titled, "Shermania!" was shot over the course of two days in August 2010 in Los Angeles and Thousand Oaks, California, under the direction of Cynthia Ferrell & Brian McDonald and stars Tess Ferrell and Jerry Ranger.
Other credits include:
Cinematographer: Tim Carr
Editors: Brian McDonald, Chuck Lewis & Nick Brosco
Boom operator and production support: Gary Chambers
Script supervisor: Nancy Friedman
Musical arrangement & performance: David Vasquez
Recorded, mixed, & mastered: Jeff Lewis at Moonlight Studios, Los Angeles
With special thanks to Gregg Sherman
The film is distributed by the Mouse Lounge Podcast
Enjoy!

In this episode, the Mouse Lounge presents Disney’s fascination with the automobile, or cars… to you and me.

From the Walt Disney Archives:  At the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair, Ford presented Disney's "The Magic Skyway," the second most popular exhibit at the fair, using Ford cars in an early prototype of the Omnimover system to move the audience through scenes featuring life-sized audio-animatronic dinosaurs and cavemen.   Walt narrates this forgotten attraction of Yesterdayland.

Each week, in From the Vault we sample a clip from a classic Disney film, short, television or radio program, or Disneyland Record.   This week, we take a ride back in time to June 6, 1952 for the release of Susie the Little Blue Coupe.  The incomparable Sterling Holloway narrates.

Each week we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West.   This week, we double dipstick.  First into Yesterdayland for a  compilation track from Disneyland’s Autopia.  Then we motor back east for a ride on Test Track in Epcot.

We'll close this week’s show with a replay of the Mouse Lounge Mix of John Mayer’s Route 66 from Disney/Pixar’s Cars.

In this episode, the Mouse Lounge takes in a languorous, lazy summer day…at 55 miles per hour of course.

Each week, in From the Vault we sample a clip from a classic Disney film, short, television or radio program, or Disneyland Record.   In 1963 Walt Disney Productions released the feature film Summer Magic, starring Hayley Mills, Burl Ives, and Dorothy McGuire in a story about a Boston widow and her children taking up residence in a small town in Maine. The film was based on the book "Mother Carey's Chickens" by Kate Douglas Wiggin.  The film was Mills' fourth of six films for Disney, and the young actress received a Golden Globe nomination for her work.

The soundtrack from the picture yielded some very good songs, including the Richard Sherman composition, the Ugly Bug Ball; which went on to be a popular song that year.  Two other cuts on the record however will be of interest to Disney Park fans.  Flitterin’ and Beautiful Beulah can often be heard in instrumental form as you stroll down Main Street USA.  Now have a listen to these familiar melodies, complete with their original lyrics.

From the Walt Disney Archives:  On the evening of June 25th, D23 members gathered at the Walt Disney Theater on the Disney Studios lot in Burbank to witness a once in a lifetime event.  Dave Smith, Chief Archivist for the Walt Disney Company celebrated his and it’s 40th anniversary!  While tinged with just the slightest bit of sadness with the fresh reveal Dave will be retiring in October; the evening was a celebration in the truest sense.  Disney luminaries such as CEO Bob Iger, composer Richard Sherman, and Imagineers Tony Baxter and Bob Gurr, were in attendance.

Leonard Maltin interviewed Dave during the occasion.  We present the entirety of that interview here.

Each week we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West.   This week, summer isn’t complete without the rush of a roller coaster and fireworks.  In DCA’s Paradise Pier, take a ride on California Screamin’!  Then, let’s cross the esplanade and take in Magical!, Disney’s Nightastic fireworks spectacular.  This is a Mouse Lounge Re-mix, so should be extra fun with the sounds of a very enthusiastic summer crowd in the background.

We'll close this week’s show with audio from an attraction you can only see online.  You’ll hear more about it coming up.  Have a listen to the World of Color Roadshow.

In this episode, the Mouse Lounge salutes America… Disney style!

Each week, in From the Vault we sample a clip from a classic Disney film, short, television or radio program, or Disneyland Record.  This week, from the 1980 Disneyland Record #2511 “Yankee Doodle Mickey” have a listen to Mickey and the gang performing You’re a Grand Old Flag and the Armed Forces Melody.  Listen carefully, that’s Wayne Allwine as Mickey, three years before he officially inherited the roll from Jimmy McDonald in Mickey’s Christmas Carol.

Yankee Doodle Mickey was given the CD treatment in 2002.  While several songs from the original LP were removed, at the time The American Adventure hosted an a capella group called, “American  Vybe.”  Their studio rendition of America the Beautiful is featured here.

From the Walt Disney Archives:  In 2004 Leonard Maltin met with John Hench, at the time, Disney’s longest-term employee, and discusses how after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Burbank studio was instantly turned into a base for the military.  Then, Walt's nephew recalls his boyhood memories of the Disney studio during the war and also touches on the Disney insignia's popularity and his own method of promoting Victory Through Air Power.

Each week we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West.   This week we look into the making of and then take in the Magic Kingdom’s Hall of Presidents.  With new narration by Morgan Freeman and a short speech by President Obama, this iteration of the attraction in a class by itself.

We'll close this week’s show with a concert in the park performed by the Disneyland Band.  Enjoy, “Music in America” followed by the Flag Retreat Ceremony.

Please keep your head, arms, feet and legs inside the podcast at all times.  Driver you’re clear!

Let's reflect on this holiday by heeding Walt Disney, who spoke the following words at the Metropolitan Opera house in New York City in 1941, as America tumbled into World War II:

"Tomorrow will be better. For as long as America keeps alive the ideas of freedom and a better life, all men will want to be free and share our way of life. I thank God and America for the right to live and raise my family under the flag of tolerance, democracy and freedom."

Call or text with your comments!!! New number -> (805) 270-5785

In this episode, the Mouse Lounge tumbles down the rabbit hole.

Each week, in From the Vault we sample a clip from a classic Disney film, short, television or radio program, or Disneyland Record.  This week Walt introduces the tale of Alice in Wonderland, and then told on Disneyland Records ST-3909, the Magic Window Series!  Listen to the first half in the podcast, then log in to the multimedia section of mouselounge.com to download the second half.

From the Walt Disney Archives:  Walt gives a tour of the Disney Studios to Winston Hibler under the auspices of being during production of Alice in Wonderland.  While purely a promotional puff piece it is nonetheless worthy of playback for its nostalgia value.

Each week we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West. A year before the first major expansion of Disneyland that was to add the Matterhorn, Monorail, and subs, on June 14, 1958, Alice in Wonderland, the attraction opened.  Adjacent to The Mad Tea Party and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, this dark ride has always been exclusive to Disneyland.

We'll close this week’s show with a musical excerpt and live performance, both from Disneyland. Lifted from the soundtrack of the hopefully temporarily defunct Parade of Dreams, have a listen to the Alice Unit.  Then have a seat in front of the old upright on Coke Corner as Alice and the Mad Hatter do their level best to organize the chairs for a mad tea party!

Enjoy!
